Overshot – More than Stars and Roses
April 19, 2018       9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Washington County Museum of Fine Arts
City Park, Hagerstown, MD

Instructor – Barbara Diefenderfer

Students will learn to weave and understand traditional overshot patterns as they were known to our grandmothers and explore ways to transform these patterns into 21st century beauties.  Convert star fashion treadlings into beautiful circular rose fashion designs.  Discover weaving in the Italian fashion as well as several flame point and boundweave variations.

Registration required

This workshop will be held in the museum atrium with its beautiful natural light.  Floor or table looms are equally acceptable for this class which will use only 4 shafts.  Natural colored 10/2 or 8/2 cotton will be used for the warp.  Directions for warping and threading will be supplied upon registration.  Students will come to class with looms dressed and ready to begin weaving this learning sampler.  Tables will be available as needed.
Registration should be made at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.  Each participant will pay $25 to the museum in advance of the class and be prepared to pay the instructor $15 for a workbook and class fee at the beginning of the workshop.
Any questions will be answered by Barbara Diefenderfer by e-mail at Barbara.norris@verizon.net or by phone at 301-797-4282.  Barbara, a Master Weaver, is a well-known instructor in the Mid-Atlantic area, a MAFA Conference instructor and a long term teacher at the museum.  She enjoys pushing the limits of weave structures and watching her students’ eyes sparkle as they learn new ways to experience creating beautiful woven pieces.
Registration may be completed on line at the wcmfa.org website.   You may also register in person at the museum.
