As a new weaver I was excited to attend the 2017 Pennsylvania Farm Show Sheep to Shawl competition for the very first time. It was standing room only as the competition kicked off with seven teams competing. Teams from across the state each featured a display highlighting their shawl designs.
The Adams county team Spin City dressed as Alice in wonderland, Both the Lancaster and Butler County Guilds had themes based on our states beautiful woods and parks and featured painted warps in greens, tans and browns. Dream Weavers from Northumberland County used beautiful purples and greens based on Lilacs. For the Love of Ewe from Cumberland County used peaches and pinks based on Sunset and Franklin County's Friends thru Fiber used a white, black and gray design based on Canada Geese. The winner was Time Warp from Montour County. Their design was based on micro-brewed beers and was a rich combination so brown, tan and gold shades warped in a palindrome sequence and the weft was from a dark Border Leicester Ewe using and advancing twill. Other teams in the Sheep-To-Shawl Competition:
2nd Place, Reserve Champion – Friends Thru Fiber, Franklin Co.
3rd Place – For the Love of Ewe, Cumberland Co.
4th Place – Spin City, Adams Co.
5th Place – Lancaster Spinners and Weavers Guild, Lancaster Co.
6th Place – Butler County Pedalers, Butler Co
